CALL TO ACTION - PINE RIDGE INDIAN RESERVATION

CAN-DO has been working on putting together a program for Pine Ridge Indian Reservation for the upcoming year, 2009. Due to the recent winter storm (in November) the residents of Pine Ridge have been struggling to survive due to power outages. It is CAN-DO's goal to provide immediate and direct assistance to the residents, in their efforts to survive the winter weather that sweeps down across South Dakota from the Canadian arctic. We seek to address the immediate issue of winter heating & the long term solutions to resolve this annual struggle against the harsh winter climate. In doing so we seek to:

*Address emergency heating needs
*Power generators to be donated to emergency sites, where residents can be brought during severe weather.
*Blanket Drives for the elderly & children
*Chain Saws & wood cutting supplies for wood burning stoves
*Heavy winter coats & gloves suitable for extreme cold weather conditions
*Due to the recent outages the residents lost most all their food, so we are looking for canned goods or doantions to purchase the food in Pine Ridge.

As of today 12/08/08 we have received a total of $2,300 to purchase soup. A local grocer is willing to sell us the soup and can goods at coast which breaks down to, $200 for 20 cases = 500 cans. CAN-DO will be heading to Pine Ridge to distribute the food and supplies we raise in the next two weeks.

video- http://www.can-do.org/sioux.php?video1=1

Any donation big or small will be graciously appreciated and 100% will go directly to the people of Pine Ridge. Please visit: https://secure.can-do.org/ to make a online donation or send check or money order to:

CAN-DO
578 Washington Blvd. Ste. 390
Marina Del Rey, CA 90292

All donations are 100% tax deductible. All projects can be viewed on line and you can track the impact of your donations via our detailed video documentation posted regularly on www.can-do.org.

EIN/TAX ID# 20-1489454.
CAN-DO FOUNDER ERIC KLEIN HONORED AT UNITED NATIONS, RECEIVES "GLOBAL COMPASSION AWARD"

(NEW YORK , NY ) - CAN-DO.org founder Eric Klein received the Airline Ambassador's "Global Compassion Award" in a ceremony held at the United Nations headquarters. The award, presented by famed NBC journalist and philanthropist Ann Curry, was in recognition of Klein's international disaster relief efforts and achievements in humanitarian aid.

The event was hosted by Airline Ambassadors, an international philanthropic organization, comprised of volunteers from the airline industry who use their travel privileges to help those in need.

As a first in the United Nation's history, the event was broadcasted LIVE over the Internet via VirtualVolunteer.tv, CAN -DO's interactive real-time video website.

Over 350 supporters and dignitaries -including UN Secretary General Ban-Ki moon- attended the event. In an emotional speech, Klein emphasized the importance of accountability and cooperation in the relief field.

"I would not being doing justice to the survivors of disasters whom I serve and who fall victim every day to the system, if I did not bring attention to the issue of accountability," Klein said. He stressed the imperative to hold large NGO's and relief organizations responsible for each donation collected and distributed.

Announcing CAN-DO's partnership with Airline Ambassador's, Klein underlined the importance for individuals and organizations to work together to create a maximum impact. "By uniting, collaborating and supporting one another we can expand our efforts globally. We can show that not only can one person make a difference in this world, but by many people and organizations joining together we change it."

CAN-DO and VirtualVolunteer.tv are quickly becoming recognized by the public and governmental forums as a transparent, "no-nonsense" organization that achieves measurable results with a lasting impact in disaster stricken areas across the globe.

As a result of Klein's powerful speech and relief experience, Klein has been invited back to the United Nations to speak about accountability at a future conference.

CAN-DO is a registered 501©3 non-profit organization. Our team provides critical humanitarian relief to communities most impacted by economic hardship and natural disaster. CAN-DO has coordinated immediate emergency relief missions in the Gulf Coast, Iowa, Sri Lanka, and Africa. CAN-DO has distributed critical aid and is currently coordinating educational enrichment and alternative energy projects to benefit the Crow Creek Reservation in South Dakota. Our hands-on approach is revolutionizing the relief industry and leading the movement to create sustainable social change.

Related Link:

To view Klein's speech at the United Nations : Click Here

To learn more about CAN-DO and how you can get involved visit: www.can-do.org & http://virtualvolunteer.tv

TODAY, LIVE FROM THE FIELD

Today Saturday September 20th, 2008 Can-Do will be at Crow Creek Indian Reservation in Fort Thompson, South Dakota participating in the "A Day of Dignity" project. This is the second year of this event. This was started to provide immediate aid and assistance to this impoverished Sioux tribal community of 2,800 people. These are a tribe that has been left behind with help and promises and they desperately need our support.

As of the year 2000 US cenus, Buffalo County was the nations poorest area and had more impoverished children than any other county in the US. Most of Buffalo County is made up of the Crow Creek Indian Reservation. The census showed an unemployment rate of 80%, with the average combined income of less than $10,000.00 per year. A great number of homes lack the basic needs such as kitchens, plumbing or telephones. It is common to have families of 18 people living in one home. It is NOT uncommon to have electricity shut off during the harshest months of winter, with the weather reaching well below zero, for months on end. Conditions that we hope to never see ourselves or our loved ones in. This community desperately needs our help. We have a list of items that are needed on our website under Crow Creek.

Can-Do is reaching out to our friends and supporters to donate to this very deserving and amazing cause. We count on our volunteers and donators to make these projects possible.

We will be broadcasting live through our website virtualvolunteer.tv and encourage you to watch donations being put into action.

Thank you for your ongoing support and please help us with this amazing effort. Donations go directly to the people in need and as always we pride ourselves on 100% accountability.

Hurricane Gustos- Pearlington, MS - Update From the Field

A brief update from Hattiesburg, MS. The Stennis Space Center is where many Pearlington residents took refuge during Katrina.

Sent: Monday, September 01, 2008 5:07 PM

Winds and rain have picked up again and I want to unplug my computer in case we lose electricity. 100 homes in Pearlington flooded and a tornado touched down near Stennis Space Center. Of course, Pearlington is just a few miles from the Center so I don't know yet where it touched down. I'll wait until the storm has moved out of our area before I call Dallas. I don't know when she'll go back, but she could tell us how the community center withstood the hurricane. I-90 was covered with water from Biloxi through Hancock County. I don't know how much of our local news you can get so I'll try to keep you updated. We are still under a tornado watch.
